No. We do not describe the fabric as ballistic or protective.

No. It does not lock and does not prevent unauthorized access.

Can I carry it off the body, like a hand-carry bag?

The strap attaches at several positions, so it rides crossbody on either side or shortened. Whether the strap comes off completely is confirmed on the production unit; until then, plan on crossbody carry. The pull tab takes a cord extension if you want to open the rear compartment while the bag hangs at your side.

How much fits in the rear compartment when it is expanded?

Expanded, the rear compartment opens to full depth: room for the dedicated item plus whatever the interior attachment panel takes, like a spare magazine pouch. The front pocket stays for the everyday stuff. Measured dimensions for both modes go up once the production unit is measured.

Is it an everyday bag too?

Yes. The front is built for phone, keys, wallet and small tech, and the rear compartment can ride empty or hold a flat item on days you carry nothing else. Front loops for a slim crossbody, rear loops when you need the room. No inserts to add or remove.
